Re: hennesy hammock
It is the best night's sleep that I get on the trail. I bought mine in 2000 and it's still holding up fine.

Re: hennesy hammock
On a serious note. They do not allow for much insulation when its cold. The wind is right on your but in the tight faberic.
You need to read up on them for Winter use. there are tricks to help. I was looking into one because of the Hills and rocks of rhe Ozarks. They allow a lot of location possibilities compared to a tent. If you get one let us know what you think. E-A |

Re: hennesy hammock
My experiences with hammocks is a few decades old, and I was going to chime in with my attempt to sleep the night in my seven-dollar fishnet hammock. (It's not fun to wake up with a full body cramp, by the way.)
But these are obviously in a different league than the hammocks I had when I was a young one. I would have laughed at the idea of a hammock costing more than twenty bucks, and would have invented profane jokes at one costing one to two hundred bucks. Just as today I would heap riducule on a car priced at over a hundred thousand bucks. I am not trying to say that this product is overpriced to the point of ridicule, but I will suggest that they really have an uphill battle to justify their prices. And if their products are really that special, and worthy of such a high price, then they should be proud. And they should be eager to explain how their products are simply the best invention since sliced bread. If a hammock and fly is really worth (up to) two hundred bucks, then they should be shouting it from the rooftops with bullhorns. Such an advancement in technology and value should not be limited to the few lucky campers among us. |
Re: hennesy hammock
Worth every penny. I have the Expedition A-sym. I wouldn't go with a knock off, even if it means waiting and saving a bit longer for the real deal. I am 50 years old and spent far too many years sleeping on the ground and waking up with an aching back. My best testimonial comes from a week-long kayak trip last fall. I had hurt my back a few days prior to the trip. Achy after paddling all day, I slept like a baby each night...waking up each morning well-rested and pain free.
The fall/winter can be a challenge, bur workable with a bit of ingenuity. |
Re: hennesy hammock
Two more quick things...
Lots of cheaper cold weather fixes than the pricey insulation kitand very different than the equivalent of a regular hammock with a fly. More comfy than most beds. You will be amazed at how well you sleep in one. |

I've been looking to create an outdoor living space for myself. I think this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the referral.

Re: hennesy hammock
I've been camping out of the back of my truck for the last 5 years. My tent needed to be retired at the same time I got a cap for the truck.
Been thinking of getting a small tent for motorcycle trips. This hammock looks like it would fit the bill nicely. The only decision is which model. I like the double wide. Mostly because of the size of the rain cover. I know I could use one of the other models but I really like the big fly. Anyone have complaints or comments about these things in the rain? |
Re: hennesy hammock
If it doesn't get too far below 32 F, I'll use a car windshield reflector for a mat and a good sleeping bag of course. Anything below 20 and I go back to using a tent.
Like Electric Amish said it's nice to use in areas you can't set up a tent. (I'm a displaced Ozark hillbilly myself :) On float trips down the Meramec or Jacks Fork river, I've set my hammock high up in the weeds when I worried about flash floods, and the bugs didn't bother me. As far as price... I usually make fun of gear heads. I make my own soda can alcohol stoves, eat wild edibles and avoid freeze dried when I can, but I won't go cheap on a good sleeping bag or tent. The H. hammock's price is in line with a good ultralight tent and it's lighter. Plus it's a really comfortable sleep. If you sleep in a treeless area, it's not as good. They say you can set it up and sleep in it like a regular tent, but I have never tried it. Since the tent floor is supposed to hold my weight, I will not risk it's integrity by sleeping on rocks. This has lead to me passing up beautiful campsites and instead camping in more weedy sections as I search for stable trees. |
